Details / Museo Del Templo Mayor
The great disk of Coyolxauhqui takes pride of place in the site’s museum; which also has clay statues of eagle-warriors, sacrificial knives made of flint and obsidian, masks and delicate terracotta objects left as offerings at the various tombs.
Other treasures include a host of animal figures and jewellery incorporating exotic materials that bear witness to the extensive trading and traveling of the Aztec merchants.
Models and drawings of Tenochtitlan explain how it reclaimed territory from the water by creating artificial islands; their alluvial soil was held in by underwater enclosures and used to plant trees.
