Details / Sonora
Desert rats, young revellers from nearby Arizona, and snowbirds have long sought out the solitary, sandy beaches along Sonora’s desert coast. Excellent sport-fishing, good snorkelling and diving, and proximity to the United States have been among the region’s main attractions. Over the past decade, improved tourist infrastructure and the establishment of hotels, marinas, and golf courses have attracted a more demanding clientele, yet a the same time cause disenchantment among fans of the rustic and the remote.
Backed by cliffs ranging from rust red to gold, simple fishing villages and unpretentious towns have long provided fresh seafood, cold beer, and a relaxing atmosphere. Sandy beaches, rocky coves, and extreme tidal variation attract shell collectors and lovers of long walks.
