Details / Acapulco
The country’s most famous resort is now just half an hour from Mexico City by plane, or 4 hours on the highway, making it practically an annex of the capital.
The most fashionable beach, La Condesa, also bears the name of the trendiest neighbourhood. This splendid bay was the port used by the galleon form the Manila route, also known as the nao de China. Apart from September and October, the weather is always fine in Acapulco, attracting some 4 million tourists per year.
A range of pleasures are on offer: along the Costera Miguel Aleman, the beaches made fashionable by the American jet set in the 1950s have been now been taken over by 20 storey international hotels, which dominate the bay. The fine sands of the beach, stretching for 30 km. are lined with classy hotels but provide an oasis of calm, ideal for strolling or sunbathing.
