Details / Convento Agustino de Acolman
This fortified sixteenth century church has undergone many transformations over the centuries, resulting in an extraordinary juxtaposition of styles. Its splendid façade, typical of the Paltersque style, is marked by the contribution of indigenous craftsmen. The altarpieces on the lower left side of the Gothic nave opt for Churrigueresque baroque, while the frescos of Spanish inspiration were undoubtedly based on models brought by friars from the Old Continent.
Renaissance cloister bear sculpted plant motifs. The impact of Spanish Roman art is also evident in the way in which the doors are framed by broad carved stones. A beautiful Renaissance cross with a pre-Columbian feel stands opposite the atrium.
