Details / Tula
The city of Tollan, the old Toltec capital, perched on a hill, not only dominated central Mexico up to the Post-classical era but also influenced Meosamerca as a whole, particularly the Mayas of Yucatan.
The central altar of this major ceremonial centre, the Wall of Serpents, and the Burnt Palace, a ball game ground and a tzompantli, still survive. All that remains of the Pyramid of Morning Star is the platform, adorned with the famous Atlantes, basalt statues sixteen feet high that represents Quetzalcoatl as a heavenly warrior.
