Known as the city of eternal spring, this popular highland destination enjoys an enviably scenic location on the eastern flank of Volcan Baru. Roads lined with angel trumpetvine herald a world of exquisite beauty. Coffee estates, white-water rafting, and trails that offer superb hiking and birding are among the key draws.
The road from David ascends as smoothly as a line in a logarithmic equation – a 40 kilometre straight shot that delivers you to the Centro de Informacion Turistica atop a bluff known as Mirador de la Virgen de la Gruta in Alto Boquete.
Founded in 1911, Boquete was settled early last century by immigrants from central Europe. The Swiss, Germans, and even Slavs left their mark in building styles. The past few years have witnessed an explosion in tourism along with an influx of foreign residents and an associated real estate boom. The area is also home to one of the largest concentrations of Ngobe-Bugle Indians in the country, their simple dresses in primary colours adding to the charm of Boquete.
