Popular with birders, this 200-hectare tropical forest reserve is centred on a modern eco-lodge offering cozy accommodations. More than 210 bird species have been spotted here and are easily seen along 4 kilometres of trails that wind through the lowland and mid-elevation rain forest. Poison dart frogs, kinkajous, and various monkeys are commonly seen; you might even spot ocelots and jaguarundis, plus snakes such as the cat-eyed snake and eyelash palm pit viper.
Predawn birding tours are offered. Observation platforms offer bird’s eye views of the canopy. A four-wheel-drive or high-chassis vehicle is essential for the bumpy, muddy road.
