Tucked in a valley at about 602 metres with mountains all around, the breathtaking beauty of the town and region known as El Valle is equalled only by its sublime climate, while golden frogs, square trees, market, exhilarating hikes, and thrilling zipline ride though the forest canopy count among its attractions.
Trails lead up the mountain known as Cerro La India Dormida, resembling a woman sleeping on her back. Look for exquisite orchids blooming in shady niches. The Panama Explorer Club offers guided hiking and more.
El Nispero, a botanic garden and zoo, also displays ranas doradas, plus monkeys, agoutis, parrots, kinkajous, ocelots, and even ostriches. El Valle Amphibian Conservation Centre, an exhibition centre and laboratory, breeds ranas doradas.
