Details / Nargana
Hugging the coastline of the central Comarca, with the Serrania de San Blas rising tight behind like a frozen sea of billowing waves, these widely dispersed isles are less traditional, for the most part, than islands to west and east. Nonetheless, you will leave bearing a treasure of colourful memories.
Nargana is an administrative centre joined by a long, arching footbridge to Corazon de Jesus, a small peninsula with an airstrip. These twin isles have little appeal, with mostly concrete houses, no shortage of TVs and satellite dishes, and comparatively little display of traditional clothing, the community having been sucked into the vortex of Western modes and mores.
A bronze statue of Carlos Inaediguine Robinson marks the village square; his birthday is celebrated each August 20 with music, dance, and excessive drinking.
