Details / Casco Viejo
Founded in 1673 following the sacking of Panama Viejo, the Old Quarter is the most colourful and intriguing part of the city. Though now lacking its fortified walls and decrepit in parts, this timeworn and earthy living museum is full of historic buildings, quaint plazas, charming sidewalk cafes, and eclectic museums.
The neighbourhoods seem to spring form the pages of history books as you roam the narrow brick-paved streets, lined with gaily painted colonial confections is stone.
Here you will find some of the city’s most alluring sites: Iglesia de San Jose, Plaza de la Independencia, Plaza Bolivar, Palacio de las Garzas, and Plaza de Francia, French Plaza.
