Details / Parque Natural Metropolitano
![]() |
Tropical America’s only fully fledged wildlife refuge and forest environment within city limits, this park teems with animals and birds and protects one of the last vestiges of Pacific seasonally dry forest in Central America. City-dwellers flock here for outdoor recreation, including mountain biking.
More than 250 bird species flit about the forest, including blue-crowned motmots, keel-billed toucan, oropendolas, lance-tailed manakins, Baltimore orioles, and yellow warblers.
The visitor centre has maps and displays on local flora and fauna. Orchids blossom profusely in the orquideario outside. Well-signed paths begin here and weave through the park, although hiking alone isn’t advised for safety reasons.
