Details / Cordova
Nestled at the base of the temperate rain forest and glacier-clad mountains on Orca Inlet, Cordova is known for its famously tasty Copper River wild Salmon. The town’s population of 2,300 just about doubles in the spring summer, when outsiders come to fish the rich fishing grounds at the mouth of the Copper River and work in the seafood-processing plants.
Prince William Sound Science Centre sits on the dock near the mouth of the harbour. Its deck offers stunning views of the harbour. In addition to all the fishing boats, you may spot sea otters; hundreds of them live in Orca Inlet.
Cordova’s downtown consist of a few square blocks just east of the harbour; mush of the action takes place on First Street. Cordova Historical Museum covers in depth the 315 kilometres railroad that was miraculously built in the early 1900s from the copper mines.
