Details / Fox Island
![]() |
During the height of the tourist season in summer, boat tours from Seward stop at Fox Island every day, usually for about an hour – long enough for you to enjoy a salmon bake lunch.
Unfortunately, that precludes a hike to the top of Fox Island Peak, which takes about an hour one way, whit a bit of a mountain goat scramble at the end. The spectacular bird’s-eye views over Resurrection Bay from atop the peak make the climb worthwhile.
You can get an intimate water perspective by taking a guided kayaking trip to the north or the south of the island. For the more adventurous, the coast of the entire island can be circumnavigated in about four hours on a calm day. You will paddle past natural rock arches, sea caves, and ghost forests left by the 1964 earthquake.
