Details / Kenai Fjords National Park
Kenai Fjords is a primordial place. The Harding Icefield alone buries more than half the park beneath hundreds and thousands of feet of ice.
Fjords are best approached from the sea. Most visitors choose one of several scheduled power boat torus, whether aboard a smaller vessel with 20 passengers or a multi-deck curiser with 120. Others opt for guided kayak trips, boating out to a drop-off point for a day trip rather than paddling all the way out form Seward.
Exit Glacier, the only part of the park accessible by road, is a 19 km drive form Seward. Consider slogging up the steep Overlook Loop Trail a half mile for a close-up view of the glacier’s crevassed north side.
