Details / Grand Central Market

In this city where what one eats ends to be as flashy as what one drives, the Grand Central Market is a refreshing throwback to the days of more simple fare. Though primarily a retail outlet for the city’s diverse ethnic groups, the market has become a flavour of the month for yuppies, artists, and celebrity chefs.
The city’s largest and most bustling food market is chock-full of common fruits, exotic herbs, and cast-off vital organs. A mainstay shopping mecca for the Latino community and other ethnic groups, the market also draws a clientele of senior citizens, low-budget families, and artistes and Westsiders who want to look trendy. Food stalls also sell to-go items for brown-baggers and hungry visitors. And do not pass up the tasty tacos, fresh juices, and ice-cream cones.
This block-long bazaar, extending from Broadway to Hill Street between Third and Fourth streets, is one of the most colourful spots in the city, both because of its food and the people who buy and sell it.
