Details / Greystone Mansion
Oil tycoon Edward Doheny, Sr., originally purchased a 415-acre tract north of Sunset Boulevard for his private domain, making it the largest family estate in the city’s history.
The 46000-square-foot, 55-room, English Tudor-style mansion, cost $3 million to complete. In the mid-1950s, the brunt of the property was sold, leaving Greystone with about 18 acres of grounds.
Visitors are allowed to the lovely grounds, which also act as a centre for local cultural events and activities. A self-guided walking tour will lead you through the Formal Gardens, Mansion Gardens, and Lower Grounds Estates.
