Details / Hollywood Entertainment Museum
The Hollywood Entertainment Museum, occupying 33,000 square feet on the lower level of the Hollywood Galaxy Building, has considerably brightened previously blighted plot just steps away from Mann’s Chinese Theatre. Opened in 1996, the museum pays homage to Tinseltown, endeavouring to recapture the true spirit of its former self through treasured moviemaking artefacts, props, scripts, and exhibits.
The Dream Merchants audio exhibit lets you have a one-sided conversation with an eclectic group of celebs, who offer words of wisdom on various topics. Spouting off are Orson Welles on money, Tom Cruise on collaboration, Bill Cosby on comedy, and Tina Turner on sex appeal, among others.
Other highlights include the bar from TV’s Cheers, the bridge of the Starship Enterprise, and an interesting range of masks, costumes, and props. The education centre is almost more interesting than the museum, with its electronic archive and library, recording studio, editing suite, and foley room, where visitors learn to create sound effects.
