Details / Los Angeles Times Building
Conveniently located across the street from the Civic Centre and catty-corner to the ever busy City Hall, the Los Angeles Times Building, crowned with a distinctive clock tower, is where the newspaper that so many Angelinos depend on for their world view is cranked out every day of the year.
The original Los Angeles Times Building, designed in 1935 by architect Gordon Kaufmann, was constructed in the Moderne style of the time, a sort of toned-down version of the more decorative pre-Depression buildings nearby. However, the headquarters, with its ever increasing journalist, advertising, and editorial staff, soon became as crammed as the Sunday classified section.
The circular lobby features two large murals, a revolving globe, and a display of headline-making news during the paper’s first century. Free 45 minute guided tours enable visitors to peek into a day in the life of a major newspaper.
