Details / Manns Chinese Theatre
The theatre formerly known as Grauman’s Chinese is, without doubt, the world’s most famous cinema and remains a continual draw for throngs of film buffs.
Completed in 1927, Grauman’s opened in grand style, with Cecil B. DeMille’s King of Kings bringing bright lights and long limos to the front door for the perfect gala premiere. The theatre continued to screen the biggest box-office hits, and the galas became a tradition. Although Grauman eventually sold up to the Mann chain, the main theatre behind the courtyard still retains much of its original ambience.
Although the theatre’s building and premières are fabulous indeed, the biggest attraction is the famous forecourt, where nearly 200 celebrities have left marks in the cement and where nearly two million visitors congregate each year.
