Details / Sunset Strip
If you are wondering where the stars migrated after they disappeared from Hollywood, it was westward, taking with them all the glitz, glamour, and scandals that seem to be the natural companions to that fast-living, high-rolling, turned-on lifestyle.
Sunset Strip had been a thriving and sophisticated nightclub scene since the 1930s and 1940s. Nightspots such as Ciro’s, the Trocadero, and the Mocambo are legend. The 1950s television era kept people in front of the tube, but by the 1960s the Strip was packed with flower children, and the clubs became launching pads for some of rock’ n’ roll’s most famous bands.
The majority of Sunset Strip tenants are entertainment industry professionals, and clubs are now owned by celebrity financiers such as Johnny Depp and Hustler Magazine’s Larry Flynt. Celebrities covet the privacy of independent hotels such as the age-old Chateau Marmont, the art deco Argyle, and the super-classy Mondrian.
