Details / The Gamble House
The Rose Bowl may be Pasadena’s big icon to some, but to architecture buffs the Gamble House is the city’s claim to fame. Jointly managed by the city of Pasadena and the University of Southern California’s School of Architecture, this 1908 residence is a renowned masterpiece of Craftsman-era styling and in 1971 was designated a national historic landmark.
Incorporation function with aesthetics and precise detail, Gamble House epitomizes masterful planning and craftsmanship, and all that a big budged can bay. Inspired by Swiss-chalet and Japanese influences, the three-storey house features broad overhanging eaves, open sleeping porches, wide terraces, and airy rooms.
South of the Gamble House is the Arroyo Terrace loop, a treasured colony of Greene and Greene Arts and Crafts creations, including Charles Greene’s own family home.
