Details / Myakka River State Park
Here you will find a great tract of rural Florida barely touched by humans, where the marshes, pinewoods, and prairies form the park.
When you arrive, drop into the interpretive centre for an insight into this fragile and threatened ecosystem. Begin exploring it by walking along the numerous paths or canoeing on the calm expanse of the Upper Myakka Lake.
Myakka Wildlife Tours offer narrated tram and airboat tours through the wildlife habitats, explaining the ecology of the area and providing views of the animals. If you are equipped for hiking, following forty miles of trails through the park's wilderness preserve is a better way to get close to the cotton-tailed rabbits, deer, turkey, bobcats, and alligators that live in the park.
