Details / Polynesian Hall
The Polynesian Hall is dedicated to the arts of the Pacific Rim cultures, including Melanesia, Micronesia and especially Polynesia. This section is filled with priceless treasures. Among the centrepieces of the collection, the magnificent Tahitian mourning costume, worn by the great priest or relative after the death of a chief, the stunning wooden statuettes from Easter Island, the Melanesian ceremonial masks, the superb Papua New Guinean dagger with an obsidian blade and the large, red feather money roll from the Solomon Islands.
The second floor contains objects form Fiji, Tonga, the Samoa and New Zealand. A small window has an interesting display of different types of traditional currency used in the Pacific: shells in Micronesia and the Solomon Islands, tortoise shells from Palau and stones from Yap.
