Details / Little Italy
Settled by the 1920s by Italian immigrants to San Diego, Little Italy has come to harbour a diverse mix of people while remaining the cultural and religious epicentre of the city’s Italian Front Street to Pacific Highway.
In the 1990s, business and property owners in the area joined forces to create a Business Improvement District managed by the Little Italy Association. Together they embarked on a course of urban renewal that has resulted in a dynamic neighbourhood with a vibrant blend of homes, offices, galleries, antique shops, and ristrontes galore: mainstay pizza grottoes, casual cappuccino bars, hip osterie.
Our Lady of the Rosary Church has served as Little Italy’s spiritual heart since its consecration in 1925. The whitewashed, single-nave church houses an impressive art collection including statuary, stained glass, and ceiling and wall paintings by Venetian painter Fausto Tasca.
