Details / Georgetown

There are dozens of old plantations along the five rice rivers of Georgetown, and for the private, less accessible ones, the best way to see them is via boat or van tours form Georgetown.
Every April, the Prince George Winyah Parish Episcopal Church holds a two day tour that includes private mansions and gardens. Throughout the year, tour boats from marinas in Georgetown and the Waccamaw Neck peninsula cruise the rice rivers for views from the water.
The old rice port of Georgetown itself, founded in 1729 on the bands of the Sampit River and Winyah Bay, has several dozen residential, religious, and public structures from the eighteenth and antebellum nineteenth centuries in its downtown National Register historic district. There are guided walking and trolley tours of the district.
