Immediately northeast of Edisto is Seabrook Island, a resort that is primarily a residential suburb of Charleston. The Bohicket Marina has boat rentals, Charter Sea fishing, and a handful of very good restaurants. The next island is Kiawah, five-star resort with a luxury hotel, the Sanctuary, as well as breathtaking private homes for rent.

The Ocean Course has hosted the Ryder Cup and the World Cup on several occasions. Two other island courses also have challenging oceanfront holes. The freshwater lagoons are home to hundreds of alligators, who frequently emerge to sun themselves on the grassy banks. Pelicans, herons, osprey, bobcats, deer, and other wildlife are usually visible form the 30 miles of bike paths.
