Details / Alpine Loop
North of Provo, the American Fork Canyon and Prove Canyon in the Uinta National Forest provide many recreational possibilities, with most of the sights connected by a narrow, winding road called the Alpine Loop. Take time to hike one of the trails found along the way, or stop at a turnout and enjoy the view.
Skiing, camping, and fishing are available at Tibble Fork Reservoir, in the North Fork of American Fork Canyon. The US Forest service operates a number of picnic areas and campgrounds in the area. Another nice side trip off the Alpine Loop will take you to Cascade Springs, a natural area where flowing water appears out of the side of a mountain and then disappears again.
Kids like to look at the brown trout swimming in the clear water. The Provo River, flowing Provo Canyon, is one of the top wild brown trout fisheries in the state. Since mush of the stretches governed by special fishing regulations, knowledge of the rules is a must.
