Dinosaur National Monument is America’s most important natural display of fossilized dinosaur bones.

The lush, alpine forests of the Uintas and Flaming Gorge contrast with the stark, barren valleys of the Uinta Basin and Carbon County to the south. Looking over these desolate landscapes of tan, red, and white rock, it is hard to imagine this as a once-verdant land of ferns, cycads, club mosses, and tall conifers, where dinosaurs roamed. Yet fossils remain to attest to that history.
Thousands of tourists flock to Dinosaur National Monument each year to see fossilized history of a time no man knew. Although visitors can enjoy hiking trails, river running, and some fine campgrounds, most folks come to see the fossils still in the rock at the dinosaur quarry.
