This monument is the most famous attraction of American Fork Canyon. The steep, 2-km hike from the visitors centre at the bottom of the canyon to the entrance of the cave system entails an elevation gain of 325 m and is a summer tradition for many Utah families.

A tour of the three separate caves rewards those who make the hike on a summer day, offering many limestone features. There are three famous caves and a tunnel connects these caverns. The site received its lighting and national monument status after 1922.

Though a typical cave tour takes between 45 and 60 minutes to complete, leave 3-4 hours for hike and the tour.
