More About Argentina

Argentina is a large, geographically diverse land. Argentina, the world’s eighth largest country, makes up almost the entire southern half of South America. It is a land of great natural beauty and great contrasts. Some of the world’s tallest mountains can be found in Argentina. Along with mighty waterfalls and numerous alpine lakes, the country is home to wide deserts and steamy swamps.

Argentina borders Chile to the west, Bolivia and Paraguay to the north, and Brazil and Uruguay to the northeast. Its long coastline, about 5,000 kilometres in length, faces the Atlantic Ocean.

Argentina is a nation with a rich Spanish heritage, strongly influenced since the nineteenth century by European immigration. Today, about 85 per cent of the population is of European ancestry.

Argentina is highly urbanized. About 90 per cent of the population lives in towns and cities. Buenos Aires and its suburbs form the largest metropolitan area in the country. Other cities include Cordoba, Mendoza, Rosario, La Plata, and San Miguel de Tucuman.
